Tumblr changed something in the HTML editor. Older posts with the 1 px mp3 player are still functioning, but are made with “embed”. Trying to make a new post with that mp3 player, the editor throws away all the code between the embed tags.
So I replaced “embed” with “object data= ……” (and of course “slash embed” with “slash object”)
And it works again.
A post on Tumblring How to add and display an animated Gif in your Tumblr suggests to use rather the “post” option than the “photo” option, and an external upload, because of the problems on Tumblr with the (pixels) size.
I had some problems with the “expoding head” animation on my Pulsatta tumblelog, so I followed their suggestions. But when I looked at the source code of other tumblelogs with animated Gifs, I saw they uploaded rather large ones to Tumblr without problems.
Then I realized that maybe the number of frames might be the problem. The “exploding head” animation had 16 frames. With Microsoft Gif Animator I diminished the number of frames till it started working. That was with 9 frames.
Using different browsers, Firefox has an addon that allows you open links (from a right click menu) in other browsers.
Having Tumblr, Blogger, and Wordpress blogs, several Twitter, Facebook accounts, all with corresponding email accounts, I sometimes was messaging or mailing via the wrong account. So I decided to use different browsers for each one of them.
So I needed eight browsers. I already had Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. Added Opera and SRWare Iron (a Chrome clone). Then Chrome Canary Build. For the last two I went for the portable versions of Chrome and Opera (not on USB stick, just in any folder, but not in the regular Program File folders). The cookies with the login data don’t interfere (that was not the case with the Firefox Portable).
The portable versions have the same icon, so I changed them. Make a 48 x 48 picture and save as ICO extension. Right click the original icon, choose properties and change icon.
To quickly change between the browsers I dragged the icons into the Quick Launch Bar. To enable the bar right click Start, choose properties, click Taskbar and check Show Quick Launch.
Twitter buttons using status query are no longer working. Twitter is now working with Web Intents .

If you don’t like personalized ads, you can block the cookies:
- doubleclick
- fastclick
- mediaplex
in both the .com and .net versions.
That worked for a while but now I found a new personalized ad.
So now I opt for: block third party cookies in the browser options.
When you want to print a PDF file from Google Docs, in all browsers you get a pop-up window that asks you to open a PDF viewer program (Adobe or Foxit) and print it from there. But not in Chrome (I’m running 11.0.696.50 beta momentarily). No pop-up window, no printing, nothing.
Even more you can’t print a document from your desktop anymore, until you restarted your computer.
- Hide the Menu bar.
- Show the Bookmarks bar.
- Right click the Navigation bar and choose Customize. Remove the unnecessary items by dragging them. Move the Bookmarks Toolbar Items into the Navigation bar.
- Hide the Bookmarks bar.
Don’t ever download InstantFireFox. It promises Chromelike instant search for FireFox. Even after uninstalling it stopped Google instant search in Chrome.
A Firefox extension affecting an other browser. I had to completely uninstall all Firefox files and remains with Revo, and start from scratch (download new Firefox) to get Chrome instant search working again.
There is a Chrome extension that hides the header: iGoogle Super Cleanup (there is also a Firefox one: Better iGoogle). Instead of the search field I made a search Google in new tab link to have the benefit of Google instant search. Handy is the To Do List gadget en the Sticky Note gadget. I could find no other equivalents for Tumblr, Blogger, Google sites, Wordpress, without signing up for some account.
